Current News Highlights
- Dr. Pervizpour and collaborators submitted abstract on Mathematical modeling of electrically assisted transport in heavy oil reservoirs to Seventh M.I.T. Conference on Computational Fluid and Solid Mechanics - Focus: Multiphysics & Multiscale, 1/31/2012.
- Dr. Pervizpour and collaborators submitted abstract on the electrically assisted hydrocarbon recovery research to 11th International Symposium on Electrokinetic Remediation 1/24/2012.
- Dr. Pervizpour was invited to join a team of Lehigh University Scientists on research with the US Department of Defense (DOD) in development of advanced sensing methodologies for body armor testing for blunt trauma evaluation (12/4/2011). Dr. Pervizpour collaborated on the initial research project leading to this next, multimillion dollar, phase of research.
- Dr. Pervizpour completed the initial investigative stage of his grant with DOD and published three papers to present at Geo-Congress 2012: Mathematical modelling of electrically assisted hydrocarbon transport in porous media (2011), Temperature dependent dynamic properties of Oily Clay (2011), Truly distributed measurement of impact strains in clay by use of embedded BOTDA/R fiber optic sensors (2011).
- Congratulations to my undergraduate research students in teaming up and submitting their research for publication and presentation at NCUR-2012: Romano, J.H, and Miller, K., Nondestructive Determination of Small Strain Elastic Properties of Oil-based Clay by Ultrasonic Wave Transmission Methods., Erceg, M., Merskey, A., Harnden, J., Image Processing and Impact Stress Distribution Measurements during Ball Drop Tests for Determination of Dynamic Material Properties of Oil-Based Clays, Erceg, M., Mueller, I., Vibration Induced Densification and Liquefaction Study and Remediation of Granular Soils.
- Dr. Pervizpour has recently published the following journal articles (2011): Truly distributed fiber vibration sensor using pulse base BOTDA with wide dynamic range in IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, (Impact Factor 1.82). Characterization of surrogate swelling polymer as a functional sensor for distributed liquid sensing in Sensors and Actuators A:Physical (Impact Factor 1.933). Distributed temperature sensing system based on Rayleigh Scattering BOTDA in IEEE Sensors (Impact Factor 1.58). Distributed fiber sensor based on modulated pulse base reflection and Brillouin gain spectrum analysis in Applied Optics (Impact Factor 1.703).
- Dr. Pervizpour's abstract to 2012 SPIE Conference on Sensors and Smart Structures was accepted (2011).
- Good luck to my Senior Project Team in submitting their design for the National GeoWall Competition 2012. Lets hope they go beyond the 2010 senior project team's performance. The first group received a $2,000 travel grant for their design that was placed 3rd, and were ranked 6th nationally in the overall competition at Geo-Congress 2011.
- My undergraduate research students Ian Mueller and Michael Erceg are participating in GeoPrediction Competition at Geo-Congress 2012.
- Two of my undergraduate research students (Jennifer Harnden and Michael Erceg) are entering their research poster to GeoPoster competition at Geo-Congress 2012.
President Harris attended our Soil Mechanics Lab during "Student for a Day" while my student Bonnie Zwissler served as the Widener President for a day.
- Congratulations to my student Bonnie Zwissler for receiving her 2nd DVGI 2011 Scholarship (a scholarship that is usually granted only once). Bonnie Zwissler and Mary Krueger received the top two DVGI 2010 Scholarships.
