Widener University
- To date at Widener (Fall 2011) I have carried out a total of 218 credit hours of teaching, of which 33 have been research release and 22 related to undergraduate and graduate advising efforts, leaving a total of 163 credit hours of pure undergraduate and graduate teaching effort. As my department chair recently stated the performance of students on the nationally-normed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam test scores on Soil Mechanics portion has rose 26 percent and remained as such since my arrival at Widener (2006-2011) as compared to scores of students prior to my arrival at Widener (2000-2005).
- While at Widener, I have published 11 papers and 4 reports, 4 in high-impact peer reviewed journals, 6 peer reviewed conference proceedings and one conference proceedings, and 4 peer reviewed technical reports. In total I have published, 29 papers, 9 reports and presented my work at 6 conferences.
- While at Widener, I have developed 11 research proposals, 7 to external agencies (1 currently under review at NSF), and 4 to Widener Programs (1 currently under review). My professional research has been funded through 9 grants, 4 of which were awarded since joining the faculty at Widener.
- To date at Widener, I have mentored 16 undergraduate research students, many have published and presented their research and pursued graduate studies. I have advised one MS student and served on the committee of 3 others at Widener University. I have also co-advised three MS thesis and three Ph.D. dissertations of graduate students at Lehigh University.
- To date at Widener, my research undergraduates have received the top three DVGI scholarships in the past two years, and my senior project team (2010-2011) received a $2,000 travel grant for their design report in a national competition, and placed 6th overall at the National Geo-wall Competition at Geo-Congress 2011, Dallas, Texas.
- To date at Widener, I have developed two new courses, one graduate level "Ground Improvement", and one Junior/Senior level "Computational Methods for Civil Engineering".
- To date at Widener, I have developed several laboratories and added many capabilities to those, including servo-hydraulic controlled actuator system for structural lab, Ultrasonic p-wave and shear wave nondestructive testing lab, Vibration with Shake table and bender elements with high-speed imaging for ground motion studies.
